An insightful glance into a life of one of those ordinary Canadians every one alludes to. A little, Canada, a little of the world and alot of sports in one little blog designed specifically to get some of my stress out into the open.

Auditor zero

Im getting really tired of people referring to Auditor General of Canada as a hero. A zero maybe but not a hero. The idea of an auditor general is sound, some independent person examining the books to make sure our tax dollars are spent the way they were meant to be.

Sounds simple, and even admirable. It used to be before Sheila Fraser decided she needed to attain superstar status. Now, the auditor general's office has become a fine tuned media machine ready to pounce on anyone in their wake.

You see sometimes, you need to check the other side of the story before you release both guns on some poor unsuspecting former football player who everyone agrees doesnt have a dishonest bone in his body. Ronnie Stewart doesnt even have access to these files that paint such a large case against him. The poor guy's reputation in his hometown is shattered at the least, and at the most he'll spend his later years behind bars as he loses the pr battle to the auditor general's giant machine.

Im for good use of taxpayers funds, im also for fairness, and oh yeah that other principle of a democracy innocent until proven guilty.

Michigan vs. Ohio State

Enough all ready, can we just play the game now. This year, i've become a bigger and bigger fan of ncaa football. The cable package i get throws it in for free, and i'm really enjoying the thursday night big east games in particular. My son and I have also gone down the highway to Syracuse for a couple of tilts as the CFL and The glibergoofs left us without out team this season and for the forseeable future.

I grew up as a staunch Michigan supporter with a rabid hate for Ohio State. Alot of that came from listening to wjr detroit as a youngster. The Wolverines have provided me with some proud moments over the years and hopefully tomorrow will be another one as they play for a spot in the ncaa championship game. Ohio State has the better offense, but ill take the michigan defense anyday. Which in my mind leaves this game from a Michigan point of view of Steve Creston, if he breaks a punt or kickoff return they win, if he doesnt well...yikes

ESPN has had a countdown clock on this game for a week, big time overkill. Will the game measure up to its hype, probably not. Regardless, i think you can make a pretty good case that these two teams should play again for the title because quite frankly, they are the only two teams that have really earned the right. I might change my mind if Rutgers runs the table, or this game tomorrow is a blowout, but i doubt either will happen.

Go blue.

Ottawa, the small minded

The city of Ottawa prides itself on being this great salad bowl of different cultures and beliefs that lives together and gets along for the most part. After Monday's municipal election, its clear that while residents think that, nothing could be further from the truth.

The reality is Ottawa is just as hungup on stereotypes as any other large, medium or small community in the country. Ottawa was heading towards electing the first openly gay mayor of a major city in Canada two weeks ago. Then all of sudden, things shifted and Larry O Brien went from a close second in a three way race to a landslide winner.

I know all that crap about momentum in politics and all that kind of thing, but here's the real truth. Ottawa woke up Monday morning and asked itself the question, do we really want a gay mayor. It was that simple, it wasnt about the o train, mass transit, balanced budgets, no tax increases, it was do we want the gay guy running the show.

Suddenly, the incumbent mayor's votes from third place all went to the same place, Mr. O Brien rather than Alex Munter's way. Yes, Ottawa is just as backwards in its thinking as the rest of North America after all.

Sorry George,

Memo to the President, you messed up. It's refreshing to see our neighbours to the south with some hope again. The people of the us overhauling their government is very empowering for all of us.

Now aside from the giddy democrats, with power pulsing through their veins for the first time since Bill left the big white house, there is a chance some questions will have to be answered. How the heck are the americans going to get out of iraq, are they going to come back to afganistan and help us hold the fort because the chicken french sure arent helping. Can we get this passport-border card fiasco decided once and for all.

Im hoping for answers to those kind of questions and this additional one, will this stop idiot republicans from their stupid claims that the canadian border is a problem. See, George the key to dealing with other nations is not to blame them for everyone you did wrong, it gets their back up. Hi democrats good to see ya...by the way, there is one american who had it right all along, Howard Dean, and where does he live, in vermont of course where they think like Canadians.

We have an election next month here in the nations capital. For a change we actually have an interesting run for the Mayor's chair. I think its the first real race in like 9 years. Bob C is on the verge of becoming yesterday's man, as he sits third in the polls behind Alex Munter and Larry O Brien.

Charielli's act has worn thin on the city faithful. He's taken credit for just about everything that has happened here in the last 10 years. Nothing could be further from the truth. The fact that a horrible second candidate got 25 percent of the vote last time for doing nothing should have wrung the bell in big bad Bob's beano, but alas he's a Martinite type liberal, that believes those living on his coat-tails.

O brien probably has possibilities, but can't seem to grasp that running a government is a whole lot different than a corporation. I wish he had 3 years watching how city hall works, or in the case of this city doesn't work. He'd be an actual choice.

Which leaves us with Mr. Munter. Munter has excelled at everything he's ever done. Started a newspaper at 16, regional councillor in his 20's that made sure Kanata got its share. He's still fresh and full of vision. He'll make a great mayor. My friends say he's a ndper, who the hell cares, he's also the best one for the job. Actually by a margin comparable to the average sens leafs final score.

New resolution,

Im going to start writing more, apparently some people read these things and then try to fix things. Lets all hope shall we.

Peter McKay, we've all been dumped man, we know how much it sucks especially when the ex is hot, blonde and rich. We all get that, but listen, calling her a dog on the floor of the house of commons...sorry can't do that. You can tell those jokes to the buddies in caucus and all that stuff but when your Foreign Affairs Minister you cant diss your ex on the record.

It's bush league. A fitting part of a bush league week for Harper and the gang. They really could have used Garth Turner to their advantage, but instead they herded him out into the street and perhaps to the Green Party, who have some real solid policies on the economic side and Turner aboard would just validate them more. They have also almost caught the bloc in voter support now.

Then there was the joke of an environmental announcement. What the heck was that? Rona Ambrose, bless her heart I like her, couldn't hold up in the interviews because really there was no substance there for her to work with. Steve you've got to let your little cabinet ministers try, you might be surprised that some of them are good, and others like Gordon O Connor really need your help.

Sorry folks been busy lately

Shall we go through a few things.

Senators fans, please don't continue with get rid of the entire team mode. It's like this, some things go wrong and teams lose, they had superior talent, but the talent was either not healthy or out of gas. Seems to me Mr. Murray should be looking himself in the mirror not Dominic, who is welcome back to my team next season.

How bout those Oilers, great effort, great heart, but now let's see if they can overcome the biggest hurdle yet winning the cup without a goalie. Man this sucks. For similar situation see above.

The Peterborough Petes are an embarassment to the OHL. Kaleta good riddings. Barrie should have beaten you guys but for some reason everything seemed to happen in your favour. Vancouver showed the world just how mediocre you really were. Your lucky London was out of gas, not due to Guelph but to Owen Sound who were probably the best team in the playoffs in the O.

I hate rain, rain and racing season isnt a good mix. Usually by this time in June, i've been to about 10 or 12 race nights, right now im sitting at 5. That's less than half. My best wishes to Modified legend Bob McCreadie, hope you feel better after that accident in a Watertown NY parking lot. Other racing notes, BMW sign Jacques, he's doing a great job in a cruddy car, Forthsye give Paul Tracey something to work with will ya. Marco Andretti i apologize i was wrong, you are ready. Tony Stewart hang in there, you must be hurt not to be in that car. Stay out of it until the shoulder heals. Pocono can hurt just as much as Dover.
